"WOW! What a Show! What Musicianship!
Last night, I had the privilege to witness an extraordinary live gig at Churchdown Community Centre, performed by the Alex Voysey Blues Band. As an avid lover of blues music from the early sixties to present day, I was blown away by the show these guys put on. Not least by the virtuosity, skill and dexterity of one of the best guitarist I have seen – and over the years I’ve seen many of the greats. Alex Voysey is not only a superb musician but plays with a feeling and a passion that is true to the meaning of the blues.
The show called ‘Old Dogs, New Tricks’ paid homage to many of the blues greats, including Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker and the legendary B.B. King, with performances of songs such as Crossroads, Boom Boom, T-Bone Shuffle and much more. The second half of the show brought us into the 2000’s and celebrated the incredible music of modern-day artists such as Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jeff Beck and the phenomenal Joe Bonamassa. Plus, we got the added bonus of original material, self-penned by the very talented Alex. It would be remiss not to mention the other members of the band, Pete Gill (keyboards), Paul Arthurs (drums) and Ben Hands (bass) – all top, highly regarded musicians who help to make this a band not to miss."
